Soooooo - if I were to dine solo (which I frequently do and am fine with!), I have to be unnecessarily forced to be in the same area with others' children? What the actual H? With only one (adult) child and those loud child-rearing days over (and I'm happily NOT a grand, either!) I really appreciate the freedom to have quiet time ANYWHERE I might go........good work on doing away with this antiquated nonsense, but clearly there's a loooooooooong way to go on this!
Gosh looks like they are going to be a modern progressive at this rate, well, in another 14 century's that is
What a wonderfully progressive nation.
No idea this was still a thing in a country of the 21st century.
Wow, they are finally leaving the 19th Century. Congratulations.
Meanwhile, Finland has just appointed the youngest PM in world's history. A formidable young woman. Sometimes, it's mind-boggling to think we are all on the one planet 🌎
Welcome to the 1700s awesome 👏
Any change towards the betterment of society is good! Hope its a start of much more to come!
I remember when someone that I knew and loved, married an Army veteran of WWII, who also happened to be an American born of Japanese descent, who had been detained in a desert internment camp - you know, the kind with barbed wire and armed soldiers. He joined as soon as he was old enough and served in the most decorated Japanese American battalion in the war. Society Progresses at a Pace Too Slow For the Young, Too Fast For the Old, and Not At All For Those Giving Their Lives To Change It.
I mean. If it was families on one side and like single people or like couples or something like an “other” area on the other side.... that’s not the worst idea.
This is how it was when I lived there, it’s good to see that at long last they are progressing forward.
This is considered an "ally"...
A little progress is better than no progress at all, but this is so sad to hear that in 21st century there’s still
Issues like that...
“Its no longer required” So.. its no longer required for restaurants to discriminate, now its optional. Thats still terrible.
Guess they will now have to put up with what the rest of us silently grimace at - sharing our chips.
Slightly confused - are men not part of families ?. Or is it just single men who were segregated off?. Whatever, glad to hear its ending 👍👌
If only I could believe it happened for any other reason than to open up the country somewhat for tourism.
Can we have this everywhere please. Sounds efficient
Hilarious 😂 it's so backward it's really quite funny!
What a progress! Need to remind how they killed a journalist in their consulate just a year ago? And then cut him into pieces with a chainsaw?
Saudi is according to their calendar about 600 years behind the calendar we use.Lived and worked there in the nineties, too complicated to explain
Yet no one enjoyed the correct sauces.
It's not far away that one day the royal family will bring idols inside to KABA for protecting of his regime, so it's the time of Red Revolution for the Saudi people to get out from their homes and overthrow the puppet government of Trump otherwise it will be very late.
They are not even an inch to 21st century, they are still zooming on 18th century not even half way though🤦🏾♀️🙆♀️
Although they are extremely behind, it is still a step in the right direction!
At least five people are now confirmed to have died in the eruption. bbc.in/36exnpk
How stupid can people get sorry anyone was hurt but come on common sense people.
It's been rumbling for a while now and warnings in place. Spate of small earthquakes 2 days before as well. But as usual...Tourism operators in NZ would rather take your $$$. It's such a greedy, greedy money motivated country.
Omg so sad for those families who have lost a loved one. There will be many questions I don't doubt but fir now consider others feelings especially at this time of the year.
Was my Christmas present 2 yrs ago..trip was cancelled because of stormy sea..wonder why they let people in with signs of eruption..hope it's not money!
Well, do I feel sorry? Or shall we say it was a suicide, who in their right mind walks inside the volcano and expects to be safe, nutters
There are signs up warning of the dangers of going to close to the rim yet some ignored it and were on the rim when it erupted!
Complete madness in the light of the increased seismic activity during the last few weeks!
Should have been closed to visitors and I hope those responsible for not doing so are brought to justice!
Do you know that New Zealand has a super volcano?
There's some carbon getting pumped out there.
Of course there is not a single climate clown out protesting about it, I often wonder how they factor some thing like this in to their equation, then you never hear about any of them rushing out to plant any trees either...
Our son Steven lives on the north shore of Auckland so is keeping us informed
And that's why you don't go near much less walk inside an active volcano.
So sad for the tourists 😢
It’s very sad and although the threat level had been raised they were still advised there was no immediate danger to tourists. They reduced the size of the groups as a precautionary measure. People need to remember it is an active volcano and therefore can never be considered 100% safe any tourists would have been told that before going.
They went to died there. 🥵
well, to that someone it is literally Mount Doom
Should not ha e gone over their..
You mean to say the rumbling and roaring was not a clue?
This volcano also contributes in global warming.
Nature can be so cruel at times. My thoughts to anyone caught up in this horror.
There were warnings about recent activity with this volcano. Why on earth were tourists taken there? Money maybe!!!
May his/her soul rest and peace 🤲🏼
so sad prayers
I'm more concerned about the greenhouse gases coming out of the volcano .

While fishing on a lake in Sweden I was to witness the takeoff of two swans. I will never forget the sound of the wings on the water echoing across the lake. Magic
In the early days of Slimbridge when Sir Peter Scott was there we adopted a couple of swans for our daughters and got news of their migrations, not sure if they still do it, but a wonderful scheme to interest young people in wildlife and nature.

Stay safe beautiful birds 🦢 xx
Swans are beautiful. 💖🏡🌷
I went to slim bridge and was invited into the original bungalow by sir peter show around by this lovely man
It had only just opened . Iv never forgot his kindness
Graceful faithful birds
It's just the one swan actually!
200 Bewick swans. Is that all? There are 300000 TIMES that human beings in Britain.
Just in time for the Xmas holidays
What's with all the question marks?
Why are there political comments here?
The Queen (or King), still own all the Swans in the country. I could understand it if they owned all the Magpies, with the state of poverty in the country.
Now Brexit is just around the corner be prepared for plenty of dramatic headlines about the end of the world etc from the BBC and other remoaner groups, we havnt fell for it so far and I'm sure we won't fall for it now,Keep the faith,we are nearly there, Viva Brexit
“On 3 December, geological hazard monitoring website GeoNet had warned "the volcano may be entering a period where eruptive activity is more likely than normal," although saying that "the current level of activity does not pose a direct hazard to visitors.” “ 😕
Everyone who visits a volcano understands fully the risk. I too have a fascination with them and have taken the short trek up Yassur Volcano to look down into the calderas. (tourists had died there the year before when it gave an extra large "burp".
It's terribly sad that this happened though.
So this is an ACTIVE volcano. It is constantly monitored. I’ve visited with my family. The risks are explained you are told to follow the guides, to stick to the paths, to avoid fumaroles to protect camera equipment, to wash your feet before you get back on the boat due to acid fume exposure. The boat is fibreglass as metal boats disintegrate due to underwater eruptions near the landing pier. You are given a gas mask and instruction on what to do if it erupts. There is no lava there it is gas and ash. You know all this before you leave and it’s a great experience. So there is no one to blame, it’s a natural event and it’s very sad and hopefully the numbers affected are low. BTW White Island always has a plume if steam above it like in the video.
Its been rumbling for weeks. Those poor people, very frightening. I've lived in Auckland, I was told they expect Rangitito to go at some stage. Beautiful country but lots of volcanoes there.
I'm sorry but who does tours right inside the crater of an active volcano? This should never have happened! Tours should be banned! They should be in the air only if at all. Very sad
Yesss! There’re still people unaccounted for. Rescue operations cannot access the Island. Pictures taken two minutes before the eruption clearly show visitors right on the rim of the crater.
So very sad!
More respect needed, in the way tourism sells the danger of mother earth perhaps, and I live on a volcano.....
Watching BBC News now and you have just had a trailer for The Travel Show. It showed footage of molten lava from a volcano. Although I understand that you have schedules, adverts to air maybe that could have been switched?
Not a good way to go! It must have been horribly scary.
I've been to the White Island. The whole of the Island is an active volcano, not an island with a volcano on it. That's why tourists were seen " walking around the rim". You go with guides and it's constantly monitored. It will be interesting how this unfolds given that the activity had increased. Our good friends were there on 24th Nov only days after the risk level was increased. It's terrible news and some serious questions need to be answered.
I just don't understand the impulse of, 'hey, let's hike into an active volcano.'
Our thoughts are with all the families and friends of NZ locals and the tourists caught up in this tragedy- blessings from NZ 🇳🇿
Well, since one method to reduce our carbon footprint is to reduce our consumption these people have done a good job... by taking themselves out of the population.
Settle down people.. the boffins have said it was spontaneous... you can see it on the volcano cams... blue skies then boom. Not being psychics they cant always predict an eruption.
Even though darwin is prooved from time to time like this, some schools still question evolution and survivall of the fittest.
How is it known that they were all tourists? I say that because I have a Kiwi friend who regularly goes down inside those volcanos wearing a protective suit. He has posted on FB numerous times of his adventures.
.....kind’a searching for my sympathy. It’s a lame situation, but....an adult is responsible for such choices.
Talk about living a nightmare. I just hope it was quick.
By the way Selina Williams we are safe, saw the island from a distance but did not consider a visit. Also lots of bad weather disruptions in South Island did you hear. 🙁
Hope they find everyone safe and well .my thoughts go out to the people they are still not accounted for .
I hope they are safe, but they knew the risk in the first place, didn't they?
Why were people there in the first place? WTAF?
Makes note to self. "avoid smoking volcanic craters.."
Sacred lands. RIP.
Fantastic way to go though ...great story for the children to tell!
Having a sturdy pair of hands is the prerequisite if you fancy a career in the Communist Party and the military.
Was the test giving the citizens adequate food & necessities so part of the country is not at risk to become a humanitarian crisis?
The world: Kim is dangerous.
Trump: Look how everyone applauds when he walks in
I love you Kim you make the world go round and round enemy of the Western evil empire which has oppressed the multitude for centuries.
That man in a great coat and a friend's smile looks like Chairman Mao. Must be a great grandson of Chairman Mao. No?
At least they have the Trump language down. “Super duper, maga test.”
Remember that time some were saying Trump should get the Peace Prize? Whatever happened to that?
He's getting a bit chubby, needs to exercise more. Those inches on the hips are not healthy for a long life.
The KCNA state news agency said the results would be used to upgrade the country's strategic status. It provided no further details.
Was it a maths test?
Are they pushing their luck? I would guess yes, big time!
Is it just the angle of the camera, but Kim sure looks chubbier than ever. Good that he can be a chubby bunny while most of 'his' people starve.
The "try not to laugh as he walks past" test.
This man is so dangerous and could lead the world into a nuclear war .
The test was very important. We can't tell you about it, but rest assured, it was most important. How did it go? We can't tell you that either. Just know there was a test and it was important. We now return to your regularly scheduled programming.
Do you see the people clapping? They have to, or they may be killed!
They have done a new test to determine how many N. Korean people will starve to death this year.
Is it a test of if that jacket fits?
Because I have my fears that it was barely a passing grade
Military strength Asia Africa we hate America.
I dont understand, why should USA know everything? Do they really need to know everything about other countries?
North Korea started the war against South Korea in the 1940’s.
Now N. K. wants to start again, this could be something worst to happen. This N.K. president is getting fatter and bigger , l don’t know what kind of food he eat but when l look at people around him they are skinny.
The old man in dark suit just behind look like he did not pass the important test. 😢😬
Those comments though, can make Trump tremble and scared
...I'm sure the insane clown "president" has a Great plan to flush away this problem.
i had the odd SW figure pretty random ones: Vader, Hoth Luke, Endor Han, Bespin 3PO, R2..plus a battle damaged XWing. was more into Star TREK so had more of The Motion Picture figures and the ertl Trek III figure set of Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Kruge. also had the A Team set 😄
And of course. The Millennium Falcon was built in Wales.
Oh the irony of showing a documentary about Coalville on BBC East Midlands when you can’t receive that channel on Freeview ... in Coalville.
They want to make the leader down but they can't.
So they try to athletes maybe it works.
Tbh as an elite athletic you'd have to be pretty ashamed of yourself to think the only way you could have won was by cheating and doping - not because you're actually a better athlete.
Maybe the world should allow doping. It could actually benefit society to have these sports fund research for enhancing drugs. Could be useful....
I'd like to see one competition where everyone is doped up and on a mad one 😂 would make great viewing to see who was better then lol
And so they should, and for a long time too and no reprieve.
Maybe, and I'm just spitballin' here Russia, but hear me out here...
....*maybe* STOP INJECTING ALL YOUR ATHLETES WITH BANE TOXIN!
This country has been under the microscope since the 70s for this crap 🤣 I don't know are they forced to take this are what???
They did the same crap as the Soviet Union and East Germany. They keep doing this ban them for 10 years from all sports.
If true this is policy as apposed to an individual thing.Sports is about bringing the world together Russia' exclusion denies that but doping is unacceptable.Let's hope this is about doping and not political.
I feel like this has been a headline since my childhood.
When will they ever learn 🤔🤔..to develope new drugs that cant be detected 😂😂
Let's wait until Monday. A pity honest athletes couldn't compete.
Wonder if any of the US baseball players will be tested.
If they can't compete without drugs they don't deserve to
They wouldn't have to 'wait in fear' if they were clean
Good,but don't hold your breath.
Bring them to Justice
Since May 2018, more than 31 Mosques are completely burned and destroyed in Ethiopia
The government didn't bring the guilty to Justice till now
Even it isn't willing to do so
We need real and pressing Justice
Burning Mosques is an act of Terrorism
We should have to stop the doers of this action.
Enough is Enough
If they are that afraid....DON'T TAKE DRUGS.
I hope gold medal, which was stolen by Sotnikova in Sochi Olympics, will be returned to Kim Yuna.
Russian athletes are going to have to pay for the abuses of others. Though that, I fear, has long been the condition of Russians ... citizens losing out because of the actions of officials.
Does that include their national football team??🤞🏴
Lucid Dreams is a tune that I enjoy just as I enjoy Rise and Fall by Sting Ft Craig Davids.
I got particularly bothered by his lyrics. It had some elements I could relate to (which is not good) and I was hoping he just had wild imaginations.
When art has a soul, it's because it has a deeper root. Gutted.
Really sad about his demise, my condolences to his family.
I'm old as dirt/boomer, so I'm not familiar with his work. However, it breaks my heart that someone so young has passed. My deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and fans.
Its one thing for an Artist to die young, its another knowing that they died suffering a Seizure while at an Airport.. Its heartbreaking to think that he may have suffered alone, while people standing around and just staring😢😢.
SUDEP. Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy Patients . Fairly common but rarely spoken of , even by neurologists. A 20 year old movie star died of this recently . His parents on were interviewed by Robin Roberts.
Very sad that young people are taken by this mystery condition.
Never heard of the dude, but 21 is a tragically young age to die.
Never gave his music a chance but will say this is an example of what happens on hard drugs
I'm not familiar with him or his music, but so very sorry to hear this. Condolences to his family and friends 😥
"Never regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many"
That’s terrible. We enjoyed his concert in Paris last year. RIP
Not a fan of rap music, but can understand lamenting the loss of an artist before his time. My condolences to his family, friends, and fans.
Actually, Lucid Dreams is a pretty good song. The news of his death is the first thing I heard about when i woke up this morning. I’m so sorry for him and his family. A terrible loss for his fans as well. My four nephews listened almost daily. My prayers Fam.♥️
I've never heard of him. But it doesn't matter if I haven't. He clearly had an impact on the lives of a huge amount of people and, to them and his friends and family, this is both important and tragic.
May the Gods bless his family with peace and allow his soul to rest in a place befitting his deeds.
Had the pleasure of seeing him live in concert this year. So young, my thoughts to his family.
Wasted young talent
Why has the the rapper BIS not been mentioned, he was stabbed and died in London on Friday?
Sadly most these comments are going to be 'never heard of him' have some respect people, feel for his family and fans at the very least.
Was such a talent and one who I would aways look forward to listening to whenever I saw a new song out 💔 his lyrics really did resonate
First time I heard his song Lucid dreaming. I was like why does it sound like Sting - shape of my heart. It turns out he was sued for that and lost 80% of the song rights. R.I.P
Roughly 150k people die Avery l every day. What makes this one more important than the rest? Of course, you feel sad for the family, but is it breaking news?
So terribly sad. Hope it's not caused by what it appears to be. So much to live for. His poor family
What's with all the negative comments? Someone's son, brother, cousin and friend died and all you could do is throw an effing “who cares” attitude.
Come on people, you can do better than that!
RIP young blood... if its what i think it is fellas its time to cut the syrup.... but anyway investigations are on.
“We ain’t makin it past 21...” sad when tour song lyrics become your reality. RIP.
His brother Slimming is said to be deeply saddened by this.
That way of life seems to lead to early death. Sad.
All of these negative comments !! Remember that's someone's child and Karma is sitting in the corner listening to you make fun of a deceased young person!!
I specifically asked my midwife recently about Group B Strep testing and she said routine testing is currently not recommended in the UK because the sample taken is simply a snapshot at that time. The mother could have had the infection earlier and it has resolved itself, or could go on to contract it after providing a negative sample.
I tested positive. Those antibiotics going into my hand is still one of the most painful things I’ve experienced besides labor itself.
Standard test in Spain as well at the end of pregnancy as it says in the text. If positive you just get antibiotics before giving birth, should be at least 4 hours as you need two doses. Really awful experience for this couple, real trauma... Wish all the best to your family.
I was tested twice. First at 36 weeks- negative, then at 39 weeks, positive.
I cancelled my planned home birth went to the hospital had the antibiotics.
My son was blue lighted to hospital at 13 days old with meningitis even with me having antibiotics.
New parents need to be made more aware of the symptoms of meningitis and when to act.
This is ridiculous. In the US every pregnant mom is tested and then treated in labor if positive. If unknown there is a very specific protocol that is followed to decide if treatment is needed. The CDC has very specific protocols that are to be followed for GBS. This is sad that a place like the UK would not follow similar procedure for an infection that can be so deadly for the baby but so easily treated and prevented.
I had a swab at my gp's as I had thrush symptoms (whilst in early pregnancy) then was told the swab came back clear. My first midwife appointment came around and I was told I was group b strep and had to be consultant led, have antibiotics at the birth and most likely stay in over night for observations on me and baby.... they didn't get my antibiotics in quick enough (had to be at least 4 hours before birth) and most of our observations weren't done overnight because I was sleeping and hadn't been provided a cot so had my baby in bed with me. I'm pretty sure the intense antibiotics caused my little one to get oral thrush from breastfeeding which we kept passing back to each other until they finally prescribed tablets 3 months later.
Thankfully it all worked out and we were both fine but what a mess about.
Huge thanks to BBC News for sharing this - it will raise much needed awareness.
We at the charity believe that all expectant parents should be provided with information about #groupBStrep including the option of testing during pregnancy. Ideally that test (known as the ECM or Enriched Culture Medium test in the UK or the GBS test in most other developed countries) should be available within the NHS. Where it's not, then parents should be told that it is available privately (from around £35) so they can make an informed decision about what's right for them and their baby.
We co-wrote this leaflet with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists RCOG - free for individuals/the NHS to download/order from our website gbss.org.uk/product/free-leaflet-group-b-strep-and-pregnancy/
My mum is strep B, I’m strep B and I got meningitis 47 years ago....I found out I was carrier because I was tested when first pregnant and monitored. I’ve told my daughter to be aware...
And yet, I see moms in mom groups giving others advice to ignore their doctors and refuse strep B treatment during labor. I know two moms who have lost babies to strep B infection.
This is standard in the US. You’re tested with each pregnancy and given antibiotics during delivery.
I was GBS positive with my fourth but labour/delivery was too fast for me to get the antibiotics. I had to stay in the hospital for 48 hours so baby could be monitored. She was fine:)
Oh dear! Glad to know the baby is fine. It seems that in the U.K., they follow some sort of check list at the NHS during the follow-up on pregnancy. So these things happen because some midwives are overloaded, and hence, forgot or misled the pregnant mum (basically they do not care). Complications happen during labour, and no one is willing to assume responsibilities. They should include this test, or at least explain about it to first moms. Better safe than sorry!!!
I don’t know why she didn’t get the strep b test my midwife told me with all 3 of mine looks like they where negligent and need an up date and a reminded I know the nhs is stretched but it’s a midwives duty to know all this ! I’m glad the baby is ok my heart was sinking reading this thinking the worst had happened
It’s routine in Canada to be tested with every pregnancy in the 3 trimester. If pos you get antibiotics during labour that need at least 4 hrs to be administered. If baby is born before the 4 hrs, it’s kept in hospital for a few days for observation and given antibiotics. I doubt our government would be willing to spend money on the tests unless there was some data showing that it was catching a significant amount of cases using that procedure.
It is standard and if you are a carrier, like I am, it doesn't resolve but the the mother and baby are given simple antibiotics while delivering and at birth. No big deal. 3 babies, all perfectly fine. Where is this not standard?
I had no idea about this at all during pregnancy or labour. My son was immediately ill with sepsis after birth (he stopped breathing on my chest). He had developed sepsis as a result of group b strep and the first I had ever heard those words was from a midwife asking if I had been tested when he was in intensive care. He has been left with a severe hearing loss in one ear but is otherwise developmentally normal. We are one the lucky ones, super important to spread awareness!
It’s such a pity the test for this isn’t routine everywhere 😞 Luckily I was tested and both me and my wee girl received the antibiotics to keep her safe.
Agree, should be standard test. especially preemie birth.
I tested positive in my first two pregnancies and received antibiotics. I was told I was to have them with my 3rd but the midwife said as I hadn't been tested, I wasn't allowed. My son ended up in SCBU within a few hours, I will NEVER forgive her.
I'm having problems with this at my hospital. It's not in the NICE guidelines so they said i shouldn't be tested even though i know i am a group B strep carrier!! Been swabbed twice before pregnancy and both times came back positive. Luckily my gp midwife is going to swab me at 36 weeks to show I'm still positive during pregnancy. Otherwise nothing will be done at all!! The consultant told me it is not beneficial at all to give the baby unnecessary antibiotics. Yes that's fine, but i don't see the harm in giving me antibiotics!!!!
They do test and treat for this for all pregnant women in the US. I had it with all three of my pregnancies.
I only found out when I was tested for a pregnancy UTI, had IV when I was in labour. He still had an infection and we still don’t know where, he was ok after a week though 🙌🏻
That's exactly what killed my baby girl and I can't believe that 40 years on, there are still babies dying unnecessarily because the mothers aren't being tested for Strep B 😢😢
Yes, should be standard. 17 years ago I was luckily tested and am so grateful I was. Antibiotics were given during labour. This should be offered to all pregnant women.
I had this when pregnant with my daughter I was 24 and no idea what it was - I only found out because they took a swab because her movements slowed and I had a pain, otherwise wouldn’t have known. I was then told I’d need antibiotics during labour, I asked if I should go in as soon as I was in labour and was told no. My labour was extremely fast and I didn’t have enough time to have both rounds of antibiotics because I waited to go in x
Excellent! Now, curb your consumerism and your waste and all good things will fall into place.
NYC has 60,000 homeless according to the news I saw this morning. That is awful. It's appalling. Rural towns are just as bad. People are priced out of housing.
Why not let the homeless sleep in your bed as your sleeping in theirs! Might be more appreciated!
Jeeez...yes, we shouldn’t have to rely on charity to help those that are homeless. Yes, we should all consume less, help more, be kinder etc etc but I didn’t sleep out last night and I’m very glad I didn’t. I also glad that 1000s of people did The Big Sleep Out- it’s got us talking, hasn’t it?
How many % of the world's wealth are owned by how many families? Surely they can chip in that amount or more. Then all can go home to sleep in comfort. Fresh & ready for another day back at work
I don't understand this. If you want to support the homeless, feed them, give them necessities if you are compelled to. How is this helping them?
When there is enough money given to governments in taxes so that we can have decent societies caring for all. Problem is that taxpayers have no say on how their taxes are spent. Nor do they insist on any accountability.
I wish more churches could let in homeless people during the nights.
Again the general public are demonstrating their generosity when the government do nothing.
“Support homelessness”? I’m almost positive that’s not what you meant. Maybe “support the homeless” or “bring attention to homelessness”, even “combat homelessness” would have been more accurate choices. Sloppy.
Yeah... Touching and all. But this changes nothing. Invite someone into your home. Treat them to a doctor’s appointment, etc. Real answer: (feet start shuffling) “Umm...” Enough with the faux care. Put up or shut up.
tbf I know plenty of ppl with families with no central heating or money to afford to put it on. So might aswell be homeless. Just having a roof doesnt always mean u are warm and dry. Sad to think it's almost 2020 and there are still ppl living like this everyone should be have a roof AND at a minimum food and warmth we pay enough tax for it
There should be a new law to limit how many housing someone can own privately without living on it. The biggest cause of housing crisis is the ownership of rich individual to large number of houses. Most of them was empty and kept empty because they are considered investment on land. Limiting it to at most 4-5 plot of land or estate would ensure no one bloating the estate business. And it would force people with excess money invest more on business than land.
What a pity to see so many negative comments.
I suspect a good deal of money was raised for homeless charities that would not have been donated were it not for this event; how can that be a bad thing?!
Of those who did sleep out for the night I suspect many may well have a better, though clearly not absolute, understanding of how tough a life it is and thus will probably be more empathetic towards the homeless and continue to give either directly or via charities; again, where is the negative in that?!
Well done to all who took part; to put yourselves out rather than just dipping into your pocket is a good thing.
I’m sure the gesture was well meant but can’t help feeling it was a bit of a lark for some of them. Homeless charities need help, support and money. If the thousands had given a tenner each and collected from friends and family, talked to the charities about donating food it might have had more impact.
Just donate your money or your time to homeless charities such as shelter or crisis. They can help the homeless with counselling, food, shelter , health etc.
Up and down the country high streets have empty shop units, all have heating and water, why can’t these be made available, especially during winter months
Are there statistics for the results garnered by displays? Nowadays I fear it only benefits the participants. I’m truly asking because “Occupy” only gained a weeks’ attention. That may be because they spent all their effort on display and nothing on solutions? Awareness doesn’t seem to matter anymore.
Shouldn't we give money to charity regularly throughout the year, without sitting in a public square letting everyone know how GOOD we are? What happened to quiet, anonymous giving as a duty?
There is an Old Saying There but for the Grace of God Go I. Circumstances can change so quickly.
Why don't the same people ( these thousands ) offer a sofa or bed for the night to a homeless person?
That would do more of a difference then essentially camping out for a night.
It's not sleeping rough that's for sure
They have a comfortable home to go back to the next day, so it makes no difference thank you.
